Cork is the shopping capital of Munster. Visitors and locals alike come make long journeys to the city, especially around Christmas time, to take advantage of the huge number of big name high street brands and department stores.

In addition to several shopping centres in on the city centre island, the most recent and modern development in Cork has been the establishment of Opera Lane - an outdoor shopping mall and new street constructed to house some of the leading names in fashion 

There are a number of large shopping centres on the outskirts of the city, particularly those at Mahon Point, Wilton, Blackpool, Ballyvolane and Douglas with hundreds of fashion outlets, technology stores, supermarkets, DIY meccas and lots more.

Opera Lane

One of the hugely successful additions to Cork city's array of shopping options in recent years is the Opera Lane area. 

Located the heart of the city centre Opera Lane offers the best shopping fashion mix in Cork and Munster. Home to premium fashion stores H&M, Gap, Topshop, Topman, River Island, New Look, Tommy Hilfiger, CC Viyella, Therapie and the
exclusive Kuyichi store.

The area also boasts the presidigous Apple computer dealership - Compu B. It's beautiful store tempts shoppers with the latest Macbook, Powerbook and iPads. The technology giant has a formidable presence in the city with Apple's European headquarters located a short bus ride from the city centre at Knocknaheeny and another customer support facility at Lavitt's Quay just metres from Cork Opera House.

Cork has an plethora of large modern shopping centres located in its busy suburbs - all with free parking. All are readily accessible by regular city buses from the city centre:

Mahon Point - take the 202 bus from the city centre (Parnell Place) 

Blackpool - buses from the city centre: 203, 212 (Glenthorn) and 215 (Blarney/Cloghroe)

Wilton - take the 208 bus from the city centre (outside Brown Thomas @ Patrick St.) towards 'Bishopstown'.

Douglas Village - take the 207 bus from the city centre (outside Debenhams @ Patrick St.) towards 'Donnybrook'.

Douglas Court  - take the 207 bus from the city centre (outside Debenhams @ Patrick St.) towards 'Donnybrook'.

Ballyvolane - take the 207 bus from city centre (outside Eason @ Patrick St.)
