Kids & Teens Services
Children and teenagers are entitled to free library membership to the Child Services & Teen Services library services. Each registered child or teenager can borrow up to four items at any one time from the junior library (or six items, if 15 years or over, as a member of the adult lending department).
Books range from fiction for teenagers to picture books for babies, along with reference material and general nonfiction suitable for younger library users. Members can request items from any of the local libraries throughout the city. Audio books, on CD or tape format, are also available. Events are frequently organized to make visits to the library more attractive and to encourage reading. Occasionally authors from Ireland and Britain discuss their writings with school children in the library.
The Central Library’s Kids & Teens Department hosts a free storytelling session for pre-school children every Friday morning beginning at 11.30 a.m. Many other events take place throughout the year to attract young readers to the library. Special programmes of events are organized for summer events and for the annual children’s book festival in the autumn.
