Many visitors to Cork have or suspect they might have roots in the city or county and the local authorities have put facilities in place to provide help with extensive lists of graveyards, workhouses, poor unions, postal and trade directories, local government, electoral and health registers. The Cork Genealogy Society is an organisation for those with an interest in tracing their roots and to promote interest in family history. They put on talks, liase with other groups and provide discussion forums.
