Blackrock Castle Observatory
Blackrock Castle Observatory is situated on the banks of the River Lee, less than 2KM’s from the city centre, the current castle was re-built in 1830 on top of the original 17th Century structure.
The castle is home to a superb astronomical society, that offer a fantastic variety of events for all the family whether you are just a romantic stargazer, searching for answers in the night sky or a serious sky watcher. A particular highlight is the free event that happens on the first Friday of each month. There are also dungeon tours and a number of stunning award winning interactive displays including the ‘Comet Chaser’ where you get to save the Earth from destruction.
Far more than the traditional dusty image of an observatory, Blackrock Castle brings science to life in a fun, engaging and unique way. Visit www.bco.ie for further details.
